Juan-Nicolás Peña-Sánchez MD, MPH, PhD

 

Juan-Nicolás Peña-Sánchez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. He is a physician from Colombia with a European Master of Public Health, and a Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan. He led the creation of the Saskatchewan IBD Cohort in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Health Quality Council and initiated a population-based study to evaluate the impact of the Saskatchewan integrated model of care for IBD. Dr. Peña-Sánchez joined the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC) in 2016.

Since 2018, Dr. Peña-Sánchez has been working in partnership with Indigenous patient and family advocates and interdisciplinary research team on raising awareness about IBD among Indigenous peoples and advocating for better access to IBD care and their well-being, see the IBD among Indigenous Peoples Research Team website for details. In addition, he is the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Co-Champion of the Training Researchers in the Next Generation in Gastroenterology and Liver (TRIANGLE) program.
