DR WAEL M El-MATARY MBChB, MSc, MD, FRCPCH, FRCP (C)
Dr Wael El-Matary is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics, College of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg since 2011. He is also a pediatric gastroenterologist in the Section of Paediatric Gastroenterology. He is also a scientist at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, Winnipeg. He completed his graduate training in Paediatric Gastroenterology in the UK including 2 years of clinical research (MD) at the University of Bristol, followed by a clinical fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He also finished his training in Clinical Epidemiology (MSc) at the University of Alberta. He was appointed as an assistant professor at the University of Alberta from 2007 to 2010 and he also worked as consultant paediatric gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital (Alder Hey) 2010-201. His research interests include clinical, epidemiological, and translational aspects of inflammatory bowel disease in children. He is also developing an interest in quality improvement in paediatric IBD care. He is an expert in paediatric IBD clinical care and research.
He is the founder of the recently created the Manitoba Ambi-directional Longitudinal Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort Study (MALPID Study)), assessing epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of children with IBD. He is the Manitoba Site Manager of Canadian Children IBD Network (www.cidscann.ca).
